The Symphonic Wind Band of the Professorship of wind band conducting (University of Augsburg) consists of about 65 current and former instrumental students. The students of conducting play in the orchestra as well and it also serves as a training orchestra for all students. There have been weekly rehearsals since the orchestra was founded 20 years ago. The orchestra has performed some great concerts and projects, that have all been directed by Professor Maurice Hamers. The orchestra fulfills numerous tasks: the instrumentalists regularly perform challenging literature on a high musical level under professional direction - both during rehearsing and at concerts; the conductors frequently gain valuable experience while working with a ‚lively‘ orchestra directed by their professor.
