20th Anniversary of Symphonic Wind Orchestra Management Professorship & Spirit of the Competition
Augsburg will host the international conducting world from the 8th of May to the 13th of May 2020 and invites all lovers of symphony orchestras, symphonic wind bands and brass bands. Again, these three different orchestral forms will be combined in this unique “2nd International Conductors' Competition Augsburg”. The participating conductors will be challenged to show their versatility and personality in conducting, musicality, and skills in interacting with people.
50 talents from all over the world will face the elimination process and present their skills to an international jury! Two preliminary rounds, semi-finals and the finals will conclude with an awards ceremony and a gala concert. The first three places are endowed with cash prizes.
The competition is held under the motto “build bridges and learn from each other”, under the artistic direction of Prof. Maurice Hamers as part of this year‘s 20th anniversary of his professorship of symphonic wind band conducting at the University of Augsburg.
The “2nd International Conductors‘ Competition Augsburg” will be the second time a competition in this format takes place in Germany and with this idea to span the different kinds of orchestras. The first time was with the „1st International Conductors’ Competition Augsburg“ in 2016.
Top-class jury members will help the participating conductors to gain valuable information about themselves.
The focus is on the realization that the conducting of any orchestral form may be all the same, albeit with different timbres, instruments, orchestral sizes and seating arrangements, and how music is created.
Interested listeners will find sheer sensual pleasure during the six days of competition. Four superb orchestras will perform outstanding pieces.
