Course of Round #1:
Each conductor will prepare 2 pieces (or some parts of the larger pieces) – and will conduct one piece (or one part of a larger piece) with the Symphonic Wind Band. The 2 pieces that are to be prepared will be assigned by drawing lots and announced approximately four weeks before the competition. Each conductor will prepare the 2 pieces/parts for Round #1. One piece/ part of the 2 assigned pieces/parts will be chosen for each conductor, by drawing lots, one day before Round #1.
25 participants per day will perform in front of the jury. 16 participants will qualify for round #2.

Course of round #2:
Each participant has to prepare one piece for round #2 – assigned by drawing lots and announced four weeks before the competition.
Six conductors can qualify for the semifinals.

Semifinals | 6 Conductors
Day 4
Monday, May 11th, 2020
Orchestra form: Symphony Orchestra
Orchestra: Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra
Location: Stadthalle Neusäß, Hauptstrasse 28, 86356 Neusäß
Course of the semifinals:
During the semifinals, the six participants rehearse with the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra for about 20 minutes. Each conductor will prepare all three provided pieces for the semifinals in advance. One of the pieces will be chosen for the rehearsal, by drawing lots, one day before the Semifinals. Three conductors can qualify for the finals.

Day 6

Orchestra: Concert Band of the German Armed Forces
Location: Zentrum für Kunst und Musik, Uni Augsburg, Gebäude G, Auditorium Hannah-Arendt-Straße, Ecke Universitätsstraße, Parkplatz P2
Tutors:
- Atso Almila (Professor für Symphonisches Dirigat an der Sibelius Akademie Helsinki)
- Lieutenant Christoph Scheibling (Chief Director of Music - the Concert Band of the German Armed Forces)
Master Class:
Musicians from local music associations, as well as “just” music enthusiasts will have the unique chance to experience a live lesson with professionals. Students, from a.o. Augsburg, will have the opportunity to conduct live in front of an audience and receive on-stage tips from renowned Professionals. The whole audience, in particular conductors (active and passive) will receive valuable information for their daily orchestra work.

All Participants of the competition are of course invited to join this masterclass for free, as part of the competition where we continue to build bridges and learn from each other.

Day 6

Orchestra: Concert Band of the German Armed Forces
Location: Zentrum für Kunst und Musik, Uni Augsburg, Gebäude G, Auditorium Hannah-Arendt-Straße, Ecke Universitätsstraße, Parkplatz P2
Course of the finals:
The three finalists will conduct their assigned pieces with the Concert Band of the German Armed Forces. The Jurors will decide on the places 1 to 3 during the intermission.

In part two of the evening Chief Conductor Lieutenant Colonel Christoph Scheiblung and his Concert Band will perform a Gala Concert with the announcement of the winners and the official awarding ceremony.
