Matty Cilissen started his musical studies after classical philology (Latin) and mathematics. He obtained diplomas in flute, symphony orchestra conducting, musical theory and band conducting. He studied music history, percussion, classical and contemporary music analysis and music philosophy. He also participated in masterclasses with Jorma Panula. Cilissen was guest conductor with the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Muziekkapel van de Belgische Gidsen/Belgian Guides, the Koninklijke Militaire Kapel Johan Willem Friso (NL), the Koninklijke Luchtmachtkapel (NL), the Norwegian Staff Band, the Noord-Nederlands Symfony Orchestra, the Bläserphilharmonie Süd-West and the broadcasting Wind Orchestra Leipzig. He is principal conductor and artistic leader of the Band of the Belgian Air Force, the Philips Harmonie Eindhoven (NL), the symphonic wind bands Sint-Petrus en Paulus Wolder-Maastricht (NL) and the Koninklijke Philharmonie Bocholtz (NL).
